Crime prevention Tips

The City of Stockton has historically been a farming community with less crime than the bigger citys.  However times do eventually catch up with us. We would all like to not worry about locking our doors, picking up items in our yards or having something stolen from our vehicle.  Yet our crime rate is close to that of Kansas and U.S. Statistics.  It is our obligation to provide our citizens with the following preventive tips and encourage their use.

Burglary prevention tips.

bulletKeep the perimeter of your home well lit, keep shrubs and trees near the house trimed.  Shrubbery and thick foliage provided concealment for burglars.
bulletKeep doors and windows securely locked. Use a deadbolt lock with a minimum 1" throw.  Also use a strike plate with 3" screws.
bulletSecure sliding glass doors.  Install vertical bolts to prevent doors from being taken off the track. If you have sliding doors place a metal rod in the track.
bulletLock all vehicles left outside to deter thieves from taking items within. Do not leave electric garage door remotes in vehicle.
bulletWhen away, make house look as though someone is home. Use timers on lights, leave a radio playing or leave a key with a friend or trustworthy neighbor.  It is not always wise to cancel home deliveries if someone can pick them up for you while you are gone.  Citizens may contact the Stockton Police Dept. or e-mail us for house watches
